Monthly Maintenance Guide for Southern Pride Smoker

Coby Poluk |

1. Inspect and Clean the Convection Fan Blade

  • Step 1: Ensure the smoker is completely turned off, and disconnect the power before proceeding.
  • Step 2: Open the service door to access the convection fan.
  • Step 3: Inspect the fan blade for solids or creosote buildup, which can cause an imbalance and potentially damage both the fan blade and motor if not addressed.
  • Step 4: Clean the fan blade as necessary to remove any buildup. If damaged or too worn, replace it with the spare fan blade shipped with the smoker, located in the service compartment.

2. Inspect the Proximity Sensor

  • Step 1: Locate the proximity sensor on the top part of the product door frame.
  • Step 2: Check for any dust or debris that may interfere with the sensor’s functionality. Clean the area to ensure it remains free from obstructions.

3. Check the Thermostat Thermocouple

  • Step 1: Locate the thermostat thermocouple (usually indicated as part B in the manual).
  • Step 2: Inspect the thermocouple for any creosote or solids buildup, as these can affect accurate temperature readings.
  • Step 3: Clean the thermocouple as necessary, taking care not to damage any connections.

4. Inspect and Maintain the Rotisserie Wheel Stubs

  • Step 1: Check the Teflon sleeves on the rotisserie wheel stubs (marked C in previous image).
  • Step 2: Clean the sleeves to ensure smooth operation. If the sleeves are damaged or worn, replace them promptly.
  • Step 3: Tighten the bolts and nuts on the wheel stubs if necessary to ensure they remain secure and aligned.

5. Check Product Door Hinges and Latches

  • Step 1: Inspect the product door hinges and latches for any loosening or misalignment.
  • Step 2: Tighten any screws as needed and adjust the alignment of the latches to maintain a tight, secure seal when the door is closed.

6. Inspect the Smoke Extractor Damper (If Equipped)

  • Step 1: For smokers with an optional smoke extractor, inspect the damper inside the extractor for solids or creosote buildup.
  • Step 2: Place the damper in the open position to access it.
  • Step 3: Clean any buildup from the damper to ensure it operates freely and effectively.
  • Step 4: Reassemble the smoke extractor by following the steps in reverse order, ensuring a secure fit.

By following these monthly maintenance steps, you can help prevent issues that could impact the smoker’s performance and prolong the life of its components. Regular maintenance keeps your Southern Pride smoker running safely and efficiently, reducing downtime and costly repairs.
