If you run an older Southern Pride 80M6 and your mechanical thermostat has gone bad, there's a change you need to know about before you order a replacement.
433005 Is Discontinued
The original 80M6 mechanical thermostat, part number 433005, has been discontinued and is no longer offered by Southern Pride. If your unit uses this thermostat and it fails, you can't order a direct replacement anymore.
The Retrofit Path
The only available option is to retrofit the smoker with a different thermostat setup. This requires three parts working together — the original 433005 doesn't get swapped for a single equivalent part, it takes a small kit:
- 433001 — 325° thermostat — $118.97 list
- 433002 — T-stat knob with temperature degrees marked on it — $14.45 list
- 433006 — Bezel — $7.30 list
All three parts are needed together to complete the retrofit. The knob and bezel from the original 433005 setup won't necessarily match up correctly with the new 433001 thermostat, which is why Southern Pride specifies all three as a set.
What This Means for Owners
If you're running an 80M6 with the original mechanical thermostat and it's still working, there's no need to touch it. But if it fails, plan on ordering the full retrofit kit rather than hunting for a direct 433005 replacement — it isn't out there.
Budget for all three line items when you price out the repair. Skipping the knob or bezel and trying to reuse old hardware from the discontinued thermostat is likely to cause fit or calibration issues down the line.
